Character Description: Marissa was 6 years old with gray eyes that appeared
very large in her small face. She has a light olive complexion and black hair. She appears to have a mixed ethnicity. She was also very thin
and somewhat small for her age.

Description:
As a child Marissa was only allowed to attend
Kindergarten for a short time so she did not know how to read or
write. Marissa sometimes showed signs of having come from an unhealthy
living environment.
Character
History:
Marissa’s parents, LaughingCrow and Stephanie met
when they were only 15.Her parents were vehemently opposed to the match
and when Stephanie got pregnant at age 16 they threw her out of the house.
Stephanie and LaughingCrow were very happy about the baby. They ran off to
get married and went to live on the reservation where he had grown up.
When Marissa was a year old LaughingCrow was killed in an accident. Not
having finished high school Stephanie was unable to find work to support
she and Marissa so she had no choice but to turn to her Father Nick, since
her Mother had passed on by then. Stephanie and Marissa returned to
Louisiana and her Fathers home hoping things would work out.
From the start Stephanie’s Father rejected the baby calling her a half-breed and took great pains to make sure Stephanie knew what a huge disappointment she was but it was a roof over their heads while Stephanie worked as a waitress and went to night school to get her diploma. By the time Marissa was four her grandfather’s behavior had escalated to burning her with his cigarettes for even imagined misdoings and smacking her for every small mistake. Marissa learned very early on to keep out of her Grandfather’s way, sleeping under the bed she shared with her Mommy, sneaking food and going to the bathroom outside in the woods that surrounded their house rather then risk his notice. When she was five she started Kindergarten. Her teacher deeply concerned with what she was seeing contacted Social Services who sent a Child Protective Services worker out to the house. Even though the house was in a very poor section of town they found an immaculate home, food in the refrigerator and her Grandfather was at his charming best. The social worker left believing the teacher had overreacted. Marissa was not allowed to return to school. The night that changed Marissa’s life forever came when her Mother told them she had accepted a job working on an offshore casino ship in Florida setting her Grandfather into a drunken rage. They left the house that night with only a few clothes stopping to stay with various friends along the way until they reached the Florida peninsula. Two weeks after Marissa and her mother arrived in Florida the small boat that the company used to ferry employees and patrons from the shore got caught in a squall and was blown far out to sea with them on board. After a day of drifting a second fierce storm blew up sinking the small craft taking all but Marissa down with it since her Mother had put her in the only life vest on board. Marissa ended up washing up on the beach of the island.Adopted by the Valadia family Marissa grew to adulthood on the island.She gave birth to fraternal twins while in her first year of college. She never named their Father. After raising her son and daughter alone Marissa returned to the island when they were at a live away high school. Marissa had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and had come home to make her peace before dying. Near the very end of Marissa's life as she lay in a coma in the room she had slept in as a child her Mother unexpectedly arrived home. Later she would learn that her sister Angela had asked their Mother to come. Angelique rather then lose her youngest daughter chose to embrace Marissa as a vampire.
