Apnea
Character
Description
Gender: female
Apparent Age: 7 years old
Type: Half-breed (* see History)
Apnea has long, midnight colored hair
that is often worn in a single braid.
She has large almond shaped eyes the color of emeralds.
She is smaller than most seven year olds, and rather thin in build.
Apnea does not speak, but rather uses sign
language.
History
Apnea was born from two worlds
joining – one mortal and the other undead.
Apnea’s mother was from a proud line of gypsies that traveled
over India and most of Europe. Apnea’s
father was also from a proud line, but his was of vampire lineage.
No one knows much of her father, except perhaps her mother, nor had
any in the caravan seen him.
After she was born, and began to
grow, her mother realized she was more like her father than she thought
she would be. For the first
several years of her life, she grew as any mortal child would.
But around her sixth year of life, things changed rapidly for her
and her mother’s gypsy tribe.
Her mother found, as she grew, that
Apnea’s voice caused … things to happen.
She taught her daughter that silence was her friend, so she did not
accidentally harm any of her kind. The
elders of the gypsy tribe thought her cursed, the bastard child of the
undead, and shunned her and her mother.
One fateful night, while camped some
where in Europe, the caravan was attacked by a ban of rogue werewolves.
Few had the chance to fight them off, as most died in their sleep
– never seeing their grizzly demise coming.
Apnea and her mother awoke to the sound of screams in the camp.
She grabbed Apnea as one of the shifters broke threw the wagon
door. Her mother screamed in fear, causing Apnea to scream as well
– but her scream hit the werewolf with a powerful force as it tore at
her mother’s throat. It
flew back and hit a tree, stunning it.
Her mother ran out of the wagon, begging her child to cry them all
to sleep as she stuffed her ears with cotton.
Apnea cried, she cried the hardest she had in her life – seeing
mounds of death about her. Waves
traveled threw the area, knocking the feeding beasts out cold, giving them
time to escape.
After running for what seemed like an
eternity, her mother fell to the ground, almost on top of Apnea. She choked for air, the creature wounding her very badly.
She soothed the child with her raspy voice.
“Apnea, my daughter, you must be
strong. Your mother is very
tired and will soon sleep forever.”
Apnea shook her head back and forth, with
tears flying from her eyes.
“Now, take this necklace and wear it
always.”
Apnea took it and quickly placed it about
her neck.
Her mother then handed her a bracelet
of silver, telling her that it was from her father and it would help her
should she met him or his kind. The
child gripped the piece of silver tightly, as she watched her mother fade.
“Apnea, I love you – always remember
that. Use your gifts wisely,
speak only when you must.”
A wave of pain ripped through her mother as
she gurgled on her own blood. Apnea
through herself upon her mother and held onto her tightly. She remained there, for a time, long after her mother took
her last breath.
Apnea’s voice is her main talent and it is inborn. With it she can cause slumber, explosions, and healing. As she eventually grows, so will her power, and her control over it. (example – when she is nervous/ scared and cries – all in the room that can hear will be put into a deep sleep) (need much more break down on this.
Other talents:
As a half-breed/dhampyr/day walker, she is lucky to be on this earth to begin with – most mortal-vampire offspring are still born. Her ‘luck’ spreads through all aspects of her life, allowing her to survive unfavorable odds virtually untouched.
Luck is one of her secondary abilities, and
it cannot be taken way. But
she cannot control it, as it is second nature to her.
Apnea can pick up other ‘gifts’ from other
vampires, but it takes a LONG time for her to master them and can only
manage low-level gifts.
In some cases, she can draw out her demon side,
giving her fangs and talons much like a true vampire.
But she is currently very young and cannot control when they
emerge.
Grace is also second nature, as vampires are agile creatures, this half-breed is as well.
Apnea ages slowly, but does age. Think of it like dog years to human in that kind of ratio – she ages physically one year for every 10-15 mortal years. She is not immortal and will eventually die just like a human, but she will easily see 500 years of age.
((more to come as she ‘ages’))
